Vietnam: MIC Opens Consultation on 6 GHz Band for Wi-Fi

Back

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) is proposing to amend Circular No. 08/2021/TT-BTTTT, which regulates radio equipment exempt from radio frequency use licenses. The proposed amendments aim to add the 5925 – 6425 MHz frequency band for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN/RLAN).

The proposed amendments also outline power limits for indoor and outdoor use of Wi-Fi in the 5925 – 6425 MHz band to prevent interference with existing licensed systems. The power limit for indoor use will be 200 mW EIRP, while outdoor use will be limited to 25 mW EIRP. These limits are commonly used in other countries to protect existing systems.

It is key for the involved companies to participate in the consultation process by providing feedback by December 21st, 2024. This Circular is expected to be submitted for promulgation at the end of December, so it will take effect at the end of February 2025.
