UNITED STATES: FCC’s Spectrum Access for Wireless Microphone Operations

Back

On May 22, 2018, the FCC published the final document in order to regulate the spectrum access for wireless microphone operations for a period of 3 years. The document informs the new requirements related to consumer disclosure and labeling rules. This regulation makes effective the amendments to 47 CFR 74.803(c) and (d) – frequency selection to avoid interference – published at 82 FR 41549.

Among the issues discussed and modified, there is a new output power of 20 mW EIRP for microphones operating through the 600 MHz guard bands, and also of 50 mW and 250 mW for the ones operating in the spectrum of the tv bands. In addition, there is a replacement of the limits of spurious emissions and from now on the commission will require 1 MHz above and below a wireless microphone carrier frequency, and there will be a wider use of the 169 -172 MHz band for wireless microphones.

Finally, this regulation gives flexibility for the method of power measurements, in which manufacturers can choose among methods applied in others countries that are consistent with the standards of the Commission.
