In a Public Notice published by the FCC on April 29, 2016, the agency announced the auction 1001. In order to conduct the process of the auction, the FCC asked TV broadcasters to clear 126 MHz of the low-band airwaves, making possible an auction to wireless providers. The auction process will start on May 31, 2016, and one of the possible uses for the auctioned spectrum is 5G services.
