UNITED STATES: FCC Amends Rules in the 700 MHz Public Safety Narrowband

Back

On June 28, 2018, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released a final rule that amends the rules of operation in the 700 MHz public safety narrowband (769-775/799-805 MHz). This document promotes the efficient use of the band for its interoperability and exempts low power Vehicular Repeater Systems (VRS) from the narrowband trunking requirements in order to facilitate the access of public safety entities to this equipment.

The Commission additionally adopted measures in this regulation to ensure that radios operating in the 700 MHz narrowband are interoperable across vendors, which will promote competition in the public safety equipment market. This rule will come into force by July 20, 2018.
