United Arab Emirates: TDRA’s Newsletter Announcement about Advanced Mobile Location (AML) testing

Back

On February 2024, TDRA has published the Technical Requirement for Advanced Mobile Location TS FS 004, Version 1.0, that entered into force in March 2024.

The requirement applies to Mobile Terminals to be used in the Public Mobile

Radio Communication System and services in cellular networks. All mobile handsets

shall support advanced mobile location features. AML is a function that is triggered by an emergency call, and location information established by the handset, using its builtin GNSS and Wi-Fi connectivity, together with user plane assistance data from a

handset-selected service where available, is transported (e.g. through use of SMS) to

the Emergency Service PSAPs.

The Standards that are referred in the Technical Requirement are the following EU Standards: ETSI TS 103 625 and ETSI TS 103 825

On Mar 13th, TDRA released in the Newsletter that, apart from the existing EU Standards required for this, the National Telecom Equipment Lab will be also adding the AML testing to the mobile phones sent to UAE for testing.}
