THAILAND: The NBTC Will Lose its Autonomy With a New National Law

Back

According to the New National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Act, the control of the formerly independent National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) will pass to the new Digital Economy Commission, controlled by the Prime Minister. With this change in the law, the NBTC will have to follow all the Digital Economy Commission and government directives. It is important to note that spectrum allocations in Thailand will be, with the exception of some cases, by auction. The transition period for the implementation of the new regulations will go until September 2017.
