SRI LANKA: Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment Type Approval Rules 2020

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has published the “Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (RTTE) Type Approval Rules 2020.” which will enter into force on Dec 16th, 2020
There are namely two processes that must be followed by applicants:
1. Standard Type Approval: Any RTTE (Radio Telecommunications Terminal Equipment) that has not been type-approved before.
2. Simplified Type Approval: When any RTTE has already been Typing Approved by the Commission. This process does not require the submission of the test report, however, a representative sample would be required.

Some of the most important items included in this Type Approval Rules are:
– A sample shall be submitted along with the application. The Commission reserves the right to require up to two sample units of the RTTE being applied for Type Approval.
– The samples submitted with type approval application will be retained for a period of 2 years.
– Test results only from accredited test laboratories are recognized by the Commission for Type Approval. The date of the test report shall not be older than three (3) months at the date of application.
– Authorizations for RTEE that were obtained previously to the entry into force of this new Type Approval procedure will remain valid for a period of 6 (six) months pursuant to these new rules.
– All type-approved RTTE shall have a label permanently affixed on the packaging of RTTE and the label is obtained from TRCSL with an additional fee.
