The Qatar Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) released the fifth version of the Class License for Short-Range Devices, replacing the fourth version issued in June 2021. This update follows a public consultation process in the second quarter of 2024 where stakeholders and interested parties provided feedback on a license draft.
Key updates to the Class License include:
- Additional frequency bands and greater flexibility related to permitted transmit power values to reflect recent technological advancements in SRDs. These changes will allow the import, sale, and use of a wider variety of SRDs in Qatar.
- Alignment of technological applications and frequency bands for SRDs intended for import and use in Qatar with international standards and technical specifications.
The updated Class License supports a number of key initiatives, including:
- Qatar National Vision 2030
- The Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030
- Improving the quality of life for residents
- Delivering services that meet global standards
The CRA emphasizes that this update is part of its commitment to keep pace with the rapid evolution of radiocommunication devices and applications.
