NEW ZEALAND: New Usages for General User Radio License Published under Technical Consultation

Back

On September 2nd, 2018, New Zealand’s Radio Spectrum Management published a public technical consultation regarding new usages for the General User Radio License – Short Range Devices in frequencies below 30 MHz.

The regulator has released a consultation document due to the increased usage for portable electrical appliances and mobile devices, which had led to an interest in wireless charging.

The consultation document defines that Wireless charging devices are part of the definition of short-range devices and are covered by the General User Radio License (GURL-SRD). The technology has two components that require the use of radio spectrum below the 30 MHz frequency range—the wireless power transfer system and the Inductive loop system.

Submissions are due by 5 pm Friday, September 14, 2018.
