NEPAL: NTA Public Notice Regarding Implementation of Mobile Device Management System (MDMS)

Back

NTA has made registration of IMEI numbers to Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) mandatory starting May 15, 2023.

NTA officials confirmed this is applicable to Mobile handsets and every device that supports cellular communication.

Mobile importers/sellers are required to register after obtaining pre-approval from the authority, and they can distribute and sell only the registered mobiles.

The implication of this requirement to Type Approval holders means that all of the devices supporting cellular communication (mobile handset, GSM device, GPS navigation with cellular support, etc.) will need to have their IMEI registered with NTA before the import. The number of units during such registration will have to match with the information on the number of units imported and sold submitted during the renewal of the type approval certificate.

Type Approval Impacted? Process, Renewal of certificate
Spectrum Impacted? No
Imports Impacted? Additional pre-import requirement
Standards: No
Product Impacted? Mobile, cellular communication device
