Thailand: NBTC opens Public Consultation New Standards for Wireless Microphones and DECT

Back

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand (NBTC) published three draft announcements that update technical standards and regulations for wireless communication devices.

The three draft announcements address the following:

• Technical standards for wireless microphones.

• General rules for the use of radio frequency and radio communication equipment allowed for general use.

• Technical standards for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT).

Key Changes in Each Announcement:

(1) Technical Standards for Wireless Microphones:

Updates electrical safety standards:

• Clarifies that the requirements apply to devices not using battery power sources

• Replace the IEC 60950-1 standard with the newer, broader IEC 62368-1 standard

• Updates Thai Industrial Standard (TIS) from TIS 1561-2548 to TIS 62368-1-2563

(2) General Rules for Radio Frequency and Radio Communication Equipment:

Adds DECT in the 1880-1900 MHz band for general use.

• Requires a license to import, trade, or manufacture DECT devices.

• Sets the maximum EIRP for DECT devices on 250 mW.

• Adds DECT to the list of application types and includes a reference to the announcement of related technical standards.

(3) Technical Standards for DECT:

Sets the maximum EIRP for DECT devices to 250 mW.

• Specifies the technical characteristics of DECT transmitters and receivers.

• Mandates compliance with one of the following standards:

o ETSI EN 301 406 V2.2.1 or newer

o ETSI EN 301 406-1 V3.1.1 or newer

o ETSI EN 301 406-2 V3.1.1 or newer

• Specifies electrical safety requirements based on either IEC 62368-1 or TIS 62368-1-2563.

• Requires compliance with the NBTC’s regulations for human exposure to radiation from radio communication devices.

• Classifies DECT devices as Type A for compliance verification under the NBTC’s announcement on the inspection and certification of telecommunication equipment and device standards.

The consultation period is defined from January 15 to March 17, 2025
