Mexico: IFT Updates Homologation and Labeling Requirements for Telecommunications and Broadcasting Equipment.

Back

On October 2, 2024, the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) published updates to the homologation and labeling requirements for telecommunications and broadcasting products. These updates include expanded options for physical and electronic labeling and address specifically the use of the IFT Seal. Manufacturers of telecom, broadcasting, and related consumer electronics must comply with these new requirements to ensure proper certification and market access in Mexico.

The IFT Seal with the homologation ID can now be displayed electronically on devices with integrated screens, and products too small for physical labeling can include the seal in user manuals. Compliance with these requirements is mandatory by July 1, 2025, giving manufacturers a defined timeline to implement the necessary changes. Key affected products include radio devices, telecom terminal equipment,  and broadcasting equipment.

Manufacturers, importers, and distributors are encouraged to review the new labeling requirements and adjust their certification processes accordingly. These changes may impact inspections and customs compliance, as updated labeling must be in place before products can enter the market.
