MEXICO: IFT Releases 600 MHz Band as Mexico Becomes First Country to Release Frequency Band for 5G

Back

On March 19, 2018, the Federal Institute of Telecommunications from Mexico (IFT) released an official communication announcing that the plenary of the authority has already approved the relocation of 48 digital television channels in the 600 MHz band, hence the country is already set for the liberalisation of spectrum in the 614 MHz to 698 MHz band in the first quarter of 2019.

This new measure presents Mexico as the first country in the world to release this frequency band and will allow the spectrum to be used for 5G mobile brand services, and its effective use to optimize the channels below 37 (608 – 614 MHz).

This arrangement pursues the arrangements of standardization for the 600 MHz band proposed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
