MEXICO: IFT Pushes Forward Release of the 600MHz Band

Back

Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) confirmed that it has successfully freed up Mexico City-based spectrum in the 692MHz-698MHz currently held by an operator, thus furthering its ambitions of freeing up the 614MHz to 698MHz (‘600MHz’) band for 5G use.

The reorganization of the 600 MHz band opens the possibility of obtaining a second digital dividend in the country which, will allow the exploitation of International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) applications for the mobile broadband service through of fifth-generation technologies, commonly known as 5G technology.

With this process, Mexico will become the first country in the world to completely release this frequency band.
