The Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) has initiated a public consultation process to gather feedback on proposed modifications to the “Lineamientos para uso del Sello IFT” and “Lineamientos para la homologación de productos, equipos, dispositivos o aparatos destinados a telecomunicaciones o radiodifusión.”
Both public consultations will run in parallel and aim to reformulate the label requirements that make part of the homologation framework (IFT homologation guidelines from December 2021 and IFT seal guidelines from December 2023).
Key changes include updated labeling requirements, effective March 31, 2025, mandating the inclusion of the IFT seal, “IFT” prefix, and certification number on both physical and electronic markings. The intention of IFT is to embrace best practices for product markings and avoid disruptions or technical barriers for the industry, while ensuring a way to identify compliant products, for example considering to be more flexible for small products or products with screens or alternatives like placing the seal in the user manual if they cannot be displayed on the product or packaging.
Compliance experts are called to review the new guidelines to ensure adherence to the updated marking standards. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit feedback by August 12, 2024, to influence the final regulatory adjustments.
Comments will be received by email at: info.upr@ift.org.mx using the format for consultation.
