MEXICO: IFT Approves Plan for the 470-608 MHz Band to Increase Coverage, Connectivity and Accessibility

On August 1st, 2017, the Official Federation Diary (DoF) of Mexico published an article stating the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) has approved the 470-608 MHz band plan with an objective of increasing the availability of radio electric spectrum in order to drive greater competition, coverage, connectivity and accessibility to telecommunications and broadcasting services. According to the article, “the administration and management of the spectrum in this band will need to establish a regulatory framework for the use and exploitation of the radio electric spectrum, in addition to proposing a reordering scheme for those within the frequency bands 470-608 MHz. The frequency bands 470-608 MHz hosts different telecommunication services, participatory private radio communication systems, fixed point-to-point or point-to-multipoint radio-relay applications and monitoring applications, control and data acquisitions (SCADA), as well as the television broadcasting services, which are considered high.”
