MEXICO: DOF Announces New Regulation for Batteries and Primary Batteries Imported or Merchandised in the Mexican National Territory

Entirety reports on November 20, 2018, an official announcement by the DOF of Mexico regarding NOM-212-SCFI-2017 (Mexican Official Standard) establishing and defining features for batteries, technological classification by the electrochemical system, maximum permissible limits of cadmium and mercury and labeling. 

The NOM-212-SCFI-2017 is applicable to batteries and primary batteries imported or merchandised in the Mexican National Territory as can be seen in Table 1 of the attached document.

Its excluded from the application of the present regulation all batteries merchandised as part of the electrical or electronic product. Be understood all batteries contained in an electrical or electronic device that is required for its operation. This regulation will be in force after 360 days of signed the regulation (September 9th, 2019)
