The past March 7th, 2023 was published in the Mexican official gazette, the AGREEMENT whereby the Plenary of the Federal Telecommunications Institute classifies the frequency band 5925-6425 MHz as a free spectrum and issues the technical operating conditions of the band.
Technical operating conditions of the frequency band 5925-6425 MHz for systems operating under the free spectrum modality.
The following technical operating conditions apply to low-power and very low-power systems that operate in the 5925-6425 MHz frequency band, which must be subject to the applicable technical regulations regarding equipment approval and the corresponding technical provisions.
Low power systems that operate under the modality of free spectrum, the following chart shows the technical operating conditions of the WAS/RLAN systems of low power
Additionally, low-power WAS/RLAN systems that operate under the free spectrum modality in the 5925-6425 MHz frequency band must comply with the following:
– They can only operate indoors.
– They must have an integrated non-removable antenna and will not have the possibility of connecting external antennas.
– The maximum channel bandwidth allowed for transmission is 320 MHz.
– Its use in communications for unmanned aerial vehicle systems is prohibited, in ships, oil platforms, automobiles, trains, and airplanes, unless its operation is inside large aircraft flying above 10,000 feet in altitude.
– They must use containment-based protocols.
– Access Points and Slave Access Points cannot be resistant to adverse weather conditions, cannot use batteries and the power supply must be connected directly to the electrical outlet.
Very low-power systems that operate under the modality of the free spectrum, the following table shows the technical operating conditions of very low-power WAS/RLAN systems:
Additionally, very low-power WAS/RLAN systems that operate under spectrum modality free in the frequency band 5925-6425 MHz must comply with the following:
– Its use in communications for unmanned aerial vehicle systems is prohibited.
Coexistence conditions.
– WAS/RLAN systems must not cause harmful interference to systems, devices, equipment, or user stations that have a license to use the radio spectrum.
– WAS/RLAN systems may not claim protection against harmful interference from other systems, devices, equipment, or stations that operate under the provisions of a valid authorization title to make use of the radio spectrum.
– WAS/RLAN systems that cause harmful interference to users who operate under an enabling title to make use of the radio spectrum must cease operations until the harmful interference is eliminated, even when the device, equipment, or product is duly approved.
– WAS/RLAN systems may not claim protection against harmful interference from other WAS/RLAN systems that operate under the provisions of this AGREEMENT.
Type Approval Impacted? The Homologation Certification could be requested now through a “Dictamen Técnico” by Perito for WiFi 6 devices.
Spectrum Impacted? The new band allowed in Mexico (5925-6425 MHz)
Imports Impacted? It is early for an impact, immediately the Homologation could be requested but without testing and NOM implications, it will be allowed to commercialize WiFi 6 devices
Standards: No
Product Impacted? WIFi-6E devices
