Mexico: Introduces ADYT for Digital Transformation While Postponing Debate on IFT Dissolution

Back

The Mexican government has launched the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency (ADYT) to simplify bureaucratic processes, enhance digital public services, and reduce corruption. The initiative includes a Digitalization and Simplification Law that prioritizes technological autonomy, data intelligence, and public accessibility, with milestones such as digital identity implementation and regulatory simplifications planned through 2025.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Deputies has postponed the discussion on the dissolution of key autonomous bodies, including the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT). Originally slated for this week, the debate is now expected to take place after November 20th, due to other legislative priorities and ongoing content reviews. If approved, their functions may be absorbed by federal departments, impacting regulatory oversight in telecommunications, transparency, and energy sectors.

These developments could affect regulatory frameworks, market access requirements, and the operational landscape for telecommunications and technology products in Mexico.

In the short term, it is crucial to monitor legislative developments regarding the potential dissolution of autonomous bodies, with key updates expected after November 20. Looking ahead, by 2025, we should pay close attention to the implementation of ADYT’s digitalization initiatives, including the “MX Key” for digital identity and “Ventanilla Digital Única” for streamlined telecom-related procedures.

The complete development plan and timeline for ADYT can be found in the supporting documents of this publication.
