Japan: Proposed Amendments to Japanese Radio Law for TPMS and RKE Systems (433 MHz)

Back

The Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) is seeking public consultation on proposed amendments to the Radio Law concerning Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) systems.

These amendments introduce a dedicated frequency allocation at 433.92 MHz and update technical standards, including unwanted emission limits, occupied bandwidth limits, transmission time restrictions, enclosure requirements, testing procedures, and labeling requirements.

The public consultation period is open from November 16th to December 16th, 2024. Following the consultation, the MIC will consult the Radio Regulatory Council. If the council approves the amendments, the MIC will proceed with the necessary procedures to enact the changes.

Manufacturers of TPMS and RKE systems, as well as automotive manufacturers incorporating these systems, should review the proposed amendments and consider providing feedback during the consultation period. The updated requirements will impact the design, production, and compliance of these products for the Japanese market.
