EUROPEAN UNION: The EN 62368-1:2014 Standard Will be Mandatory in 2019

The Safety Requirement Standard, known as, the IEC EN 62368-1:2014, is a performance oriented and Hazard Based Safety Engineering (HBSE) Standard, which classifies energy sources, prescribes safety guards against those energy sources, and provides guidance on the application of, and requirements for those safeguards. This new standard will be the mandatory standard to test safety of electrical and electronic equipment within the field of audio, video, information and communication technology, and business and office machines with a rated voltage not exceeding 600 V. To be effective June 20, 2019, At some point, this standard will replace EN 60065 and EN 60950-1 Standards. However, until then, the applicants will be allowed to choose their preferred standard of product testing.
