Back

On Jan 10th, 2022, the European Union Commission published a draft standardization request to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) as regards radio equipment in support of the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU.

The European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (Cenelec), and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) are requested to draft the harmonized standards listed in Annex I to the draft Decision in support of the essential requirements set out in Directive 2014/53/EU in Article 3(3)(d),(e) & (f) (Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Protection from Fraud).

The development of the standards by the different parties will go through the usual process and we hope to see draft standards in 2022.

This is a new step to increase the level of cybersecurity, personal data protection, and privacy of wireless device users throughout the European Union’s member countries.
