On a press release published on May 26, 2016, the European Council proposed to freeing up the 700 MHz band for mobile services by 2020. The council says that the opening of the band could improve internet speed and the quality of mobile services across Europe, which is important to economic development and to daily citizens life. The council proposal includes a deadline to adopt a natural roadmap by the European countries, setting how they will reassign the 700MHz band (694-700MHz) to wireless broadband services, which is June 30, 2016. However, the proposal still needs the adoption by the European Parliament before it can become law.
