Eswatini’s Communications Commission has released new guidelines for the use of license-exempt spectrum bands.
The document, “Guidelines on the Use of Licence Exempt Spectrum Bands in Eswatini, 2024,” provides detailed technical specifications and requirements for a wide range of products and applications, including short-range devices (SRDs), automotive equipment, data networking equipment, telecom/terminal equipment, and multimedia equipment.
Manufacturers and importers are required to ensure that their products are type-approved by the Commission and comply with the permissible frequency bands, power limits, and other technical parameters outlined in the guidelines. These guidelines cover various technologies and applications, including LoRaWAN, Sigfox, WAS/RLAN for BFWA, non-specific short-range devices, tracking and tracing, railway applications, transport and traffic telematics, radio-determination, alarms, model control, inductive applications, radio microphone applications, active medical implants, RFID, and medical data acquisition.
The guidelines also emphasize adherence to international standards like ERC Recommendation 70-03 and ICNIRP guidelines. Notably, the document encourages the migration from IPv4 to IPv6 for IoT services. Failure to comply with these guidelines could result in operational shutdown and other enforcement actions.
