ECUADOR: Technical Requirements for Free-use Spectrum and Spectrum of Free Bands for Specific-use

Back

In August of 2018, the National Telecommunications Authority of Ecuador (ARCOTEL) released resolution ARCOTEL-2018-0661 to set the standards or requirements for free-use spectrum bands for general use and specific use.

As established in chapter II, regarding Free Use Spectrum, it’s indicated that all equipment operating in the application and frequency bands listed in numeral 2 of Annex 1 will not require homologation, as long as it is not destined to the provision of telecommunications services, to the operation of private networks or to the support of radio broadcasting and subscription services.

Chapter III refers to the spectrum for specific-use in unlicensed bands, it is applied to stations dedicated to the provision of telecommunications services, to the operation of private networks or to the support of broadcasting services, which use the bands destined to free-use spectrum indicated in Annex 2 of this Standard. All these devices are now included in the ARCOTEL homologation scope.

This resolution will repeal resolutions No. TEL-560-18-CONATEL and TEL-489-22-CONATEL, and it will enter into force as of the date of its official publication in the national gazette.
