On June 20, 2018, the Chilean authority of Telecommunications (Subsecretaria de Telecomunicaciones (SUBTEL) announced that the use of the 3.5 GHz band will be suspended in order to study an efficient use of this frequency for the 5G technology.
The authority informed that according to official researches conducted by the inspection department, this band has been used inefficiently and in an irregular manner by mobile operators. Therefore, this is an opportunity for the authority to analyze how to efficiently adapt this band for the technological development of Chile and for new technologies.
Lastly, SUBTEL announced that all users of this frequency bands will have to meet the standard parameters in order to protect the users, otherwise, there could be penalties.
