Subsecretaria de Telecomunicaciones de Chile (SUBTEL) announced on their official press room, as of September 23, it will be mandatory for cell phones sold in Chile to comply with a homologation process that will verify that they “may or may not work in all bands of the different technologies and that have the technical capacity to receive messages from the Emergency Alert System (SAE).”
According to Rodrigo Ramirez, the Secretary for Telecommunications, “We are deploying a public policy that, starting September 23, will deliver two important benefits to people: more security, because the devices will have to be enabled to receive messages from SAE, and more information, because people will be able to know if the mobile phones they buy is compatible with the different 2G, 3g and 4G technologies.”
