Chile Resolution 737 Reshapes Short-Range Device Compliance

Chile Resolution 737 modifies the Technical Standard for Short-Range Devices originally approved under Exempt Resolution No. 1,985 of 2017. Published on 22 May 2025 by the Subsecretariat of Telecommunications (SUBTEL), the amendment introduces differentiated regulatory treatment depending on the category of equipment.

According to the official text, the update responds to a sustained increase in certification requests, mainly driven by the mass adoption of consumer electronics using 5G standards and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies . The revised framework will enter into force on 22 February 2026.

Certification Reserved Under Chile Resolution 737 for Medical SRDs

A key change introduced by Chile Resolution 737 is the restriction of mandatory certification to equipment described in Article 1 literals g) and h) .

Manufacturers or importers of these devices must obtain a certificate from SUBTEL before selling or transferring them within Chile. The certificate confirms compliance with radioelectric emission requirements established in the technical standard. Importantly, certifications granted under this framework do not authorize medical use .

This amendment creates a differentiated regulatory pathway between medical short-range devices and other SRD categories.

QR Code Labeling Becomes Mandatory for Most SRDs

For equipment described in Article 1 literals a), b), c), d), e), f), i), j), and k), Chile Resolution 737 replaces prior certification with a QR code marking obligation .

Before commercialization in Chile, manufacturers or importers must:

Additionally, devices within these categories may not operate or be displayed to the public without compliant QR labeling. The QR code must also be visible in any physical or virtual space where the equipment is exhibited or advertised .

Mandatory Website Information Linked to the QR Code

Chile Resolution 737 specifies the exact information that must be accessible via the QR-linked website, which must be in Spanish.

The website must contain:

Commercial Information

Technical Characteristics

Declaration of Conformity

A declaration confirming that the device complies with the Technical Standard for Short-Range Devices approved by Exempt Resolution No. 1,985 (2017) .

If certain technical characteristics are confidential, access may be password-protected. However, the password must be previously communicated to SUBTEL via email .

Technical Specifications for the QR Code Under Chile Resolution 737

The resolution establishes precise technical conditions for the QR code:

These formatting requirements are mandatory for market access once the regulation becomes effective.

Entry Into Force: 22 February 2026

Article Two establishes that Chile Resolution 737 will enter into force nine months after its publication in the Official Gazette . Given the publication date of 22 May 2025 , the effective date is 22 February 2026.

Preparing for Market Access Under Chile Resolution 737

Manufacturers and importers impacted by Chile Resolution 737 must review their compliance processes before February 2026. Changes affect labeling, documentation, website publication requirements, and pre-market verification procedures.
