The Korea Standards & Certification (KS) agency has announced a public consultation regarding proposed revisions to the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) standards governing wireless communication devices used in proximity to the human body. This initiative aims to enhance clarity and efficiency in the testing and compliance processes for manufacturers and consumers alike. Key changes include the simplification of terminology to improve understanding, the unification of separate SAR standards for head and body measurements into a comprehensive framework, and the introduction of stricter testing protocols for device validation. Additionally, the Korea Radio Research Agency (RRA) will provide updated guidelines for implementing streamlined testing methods for advanced technologies such as LTE, WLAN, and 3.5 GHz devices. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the consultation process, which will be open for feedback until October 22nd, 2024. This update marks a significant step in ensuring that SAR standards remain relevant and effective in promoting safety and compliance in an evolving technological landscape.
