CANADA: Minister of Industry Issues Amendment for Devices Using Ultra-Wideband Technology

On July 31, 2018, the Minister of Industry from Canada issued amendment 1 for Radio Standards Specification (RSS-220) – Devices Using Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Technology. These type of devices are classified as Category I equipment and will require a technical acceptance certificate (TAC) issued by a CB or by the Certification and Engineering Bureau of Industry from Canada.

Standard RSS-220 must be used jointly with RSS-Gen concerning General Requirements and Information for the Certification of Radio Communication Equipment, and the reports shall include if there is a data port in the radio terminal. The document also informs of the requirements for transmitters with external frequencies, and also for all communication devices using UWT Technology, specifically indoor and hand-held equipment.

This document entered into force upon the date of publication, July 31, 2018. Comments can be submitted 120 days after its publication and will be taken into account for the next version.
