BRAZIL: ANATEL Updates Technical Requirement List for Mobile Chargers

On January 10, 2017, ANATEL of Brazil released Act no. 493 updating the technical requirement for mobile phone chargers.

Main updates to consider:

1. There were changes regarding the testing procedure for mobile phone charger, according to Act 683.
2. The certification of vehicular charger becomes compulsory after 180 days from the date of publication of this Act.

The applicable standards are the following:

A) ETSI EN 301 489-1 V1.9.2 (2011-09), requiring conformity with the test item “9.6 Transients and surges in the vehicular environment”.

B) Resolution 529, requiring conformity with the Title VII.

C) Resolution 442, requiring conformity with the Title III – § 4 of Art. 9.

3. The certification of the Wireless Power Transmission charger becomes compulsory.

The applicable standards are as follows:

A) Code of Federal Regulations – CFR FCC PART 18 – INDUSTRIAL, SCIENTIFIC, AND MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, being required the conformity of the test Subpart C – TECHNICAL STANDARDS §18.305 – Field strength limits (Equipment Any type, Operating frequency: Any non-ISM frequency ).

B) – Resolution 442, requiring conformity with the Title II – Except § 2 of Art. 6, Title III – Except Paragraph 3 of Article 9 and Title IV – Paragraph 4 and Paragraph 5 of Article 13.

C) – Resolution 529, requiring conformity with the Title IV, Title VI and Title VII.

D) Ordinance No. 176 of June 10, 1992 – STANDARD N ° 02/92 – BASIC STANDARD OF ELECTROMAGNETIC DISTURBANCES PRODUCED BY INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT,
SCIENTIFIC AND MEDICAL (ISM EQUIPMENT) being required to comply with the test Table 2 – Prohibited frequencies for ISM equipment.
