Brazil: ANATEL Releases Regulatory Agenda for 2017-2018

The Board of Directors of Anatel approved last Tuesday a Regulatory Agenda for 2017-2018. The agenda contains a total of 56 planned items impacting many processes for ANATEL. It is planned to discuss new regulations in all sectores related to Telecommunications in Brazil, among which reassessment and repeal of standards.

One of the actions that Anatel will develop is the reassessment of Technical Requirements and the entire Product Certification process. This action is item no. 16 of the agenda and a public consultation on this topic is initially planned for the second semester of 2017 with intentions of making a final decision by the end of 2018.

The agenda covers topics of interest for Service Providers, Consumers, Manufacturers and all parties involved within the Telecom industry. Those wishing to participate in the public consultation may send their contributions electronically, by letter or by fax. The consultation is open until February 5, 2017.

no.5 – Reassessment of spectrum management model
no.7 – Development of new Anatel internal rules
no.8 – Reassessment of the exemption criteria to concession of services and the regulation on restricted radiation devices
no.16 – Revision of regulations for certification and homologation for Telecommunications products
