BRAZIL: ANATEL Approves New Regulation on Human Exposure To Electric, Magnetic And Electromagnetic Fields.

Back

The Board of Directors of ANATEL approved on September 20th a new regulation regarding the Evaluation of the Human Exposure to Electric, Magnetic and Electromagnetic Fields (CEMRF) associated with the operation of radio communication stations. The objective is to incorporate advances of the ITU and IEC. Law 11,934 of 2009 stipulates exposure limits and ANATEL monitors and performs compliance measurements. The newly adopted regulation comes into force in 120 days.

Under the new regulation, the Agency may at any time determine that any stations are evaluated for exposure by taking appropriate administrative measures to preserve the public interest.

With the change, they are exempt from measurements every 5 years: stations with power below 5W such as satellite phones and small VSAT stations; smartphones and walkie-talkies; community radios and small TV repeaters. They are also released from compliance assessment: restricted radiation, professional wireless video cameras, and video-reporting vehicles and installed on aircraft and vessels.
