BRAZIL: ANATEL Approves New Regulation for Radio Links

Back

ANATEL approved on March 3 the new rules for the use of radiofrequency bands by radio link systems. Radio link systems are used for wireless communication between two fixed points. They are associated with the fixed service and depending on the transported information (voice, images, and data) and the characteristics of the environment, they can use different radio frequency bands and operating settings. The rules were standardized and simplified, making the process of obtaining the concession and exploitation of the fixed service more understandable and transparent. In addition, as a way of ensuring greater flexibility to the rules and keeping them updated in relation to the constant technological evolution of the systems and equipment used for radio links, the complementary technical aspects and operational requirements will, from now on, be established in specific acts of the Superintendence Grant and Provision Resources. It is highlighted the importance of the ongoing regulatory simplification process. The president of Anatel, Leonardo Euler de Morais, affirmed that the revision of the radio frequency destination and the operating conditions is in line with the Agency’s efforts to simplify and reduce bureaucracy. “The new regulations will enable the Agency and the sector to be better prepared to meet new demands, with technical efficiency and speed, thus contributing to the improvement and expansion of broadband networks and the deployment of the fifth mobile generation (5G)”.
