BOCRA has announced a list of equipment categories that are now exempt from the homologation process in Botswana, following the review of Type Approval Guidelines 2023. The following equipment are now exempted from type approval:
i. Personal Computers, laptops, Tablets, IoT etc. (embedded with Wi-Fi transceivers, Bluetooth transceivers, with the provision that the Wi-Fi transceiver, Wi-Fi5 CERTIFIEDTM;
ii. Receive only Equipment (FM/MW/SW Radios, Television, Satellite decoders, Set-top Boxes);
iii. Vehicle embedded RTTE (Bluetooth, navigation, remote sensors, Car Keys etc), should however ensure that RTTE operate in the appropriate frequency bands;
Iv. And GMPCS Mobile Satellite Terminals with “ITU” mark.
These exemptions are to apply for models of devices which fall in the above criteria.
The authority is working on updating their platforms to make them interactive in providing this list and related information.
