AUSTRALIA: Non-ionising radiation protection in Australia

Back

The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency produced a new report on the regulation of Non-Ionising Radiation Protection in Australia.

The purpose of the document is to identify the definitions and regulations of NIR (Non Ionising Radiation) across all Australian jurisdictions. NIR is defined as electromagnetic radiation that does not have enough energy to cause ionization. In contrast to ionising radiation, there is no established evidence of long term health effects from exposure to NIR (with the exception of UV) (ICNIRP, 1998; WHO, 2007).
