Public Consultation on LIPD Class License 2025

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has opened public consultation on the draft LIPD Class License 2025, marking an important step in updating regulatory conditions for short-range and low-interference devices. This revision is designed to modernize the framework while maintaining compliance with existing technical standards.

Scope of Changes and Industry Impact

The proposed LIPD Class License 2025 affects a broad range of technologies, including:

Updates involve adjustments to frequency allocations, emission conditions, and maximum power limits. Importantly, there are no changes to labelling, customs documentation, or user manuals. Still, manufacturers must reassess internal compliance strategies to ensure alignment with the evolving regulations.

Key Standards Referenced

The draft does not introduce new standards but continues referencing AS/NZS 4268:2021 and the Radiocommunications (Short Range Devices) Standard 2014. Stakeholders should ensure their products remain compliant with these documents under the new licence conditions.

Related Regulatory Update

In conjunction with this consultation, ACMA also proposes to remake the Radiocommunications Licence Conditions (Land Mobile Licence) Determination 2015 before its sunset date on 1 October 2025. The revised version aims to improve regulatory clarity, remove outdated terms, and align with current frameworks, further supporting a harmonized radiofrequency environment across Australia. Submission and Next Steps

ACMA encourages all affected parties to submit their feedback by 16 May 2025. This input will be vital in finalizing both the LIPD Class Licence and the updated Land Mobile Licence Conditions.
