EUROPEAN UNION: New Regulatory Framework for Radio and Telecommunication Terminal Equipment

Back

According to the European Commission, the new Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU, which establishes the regulatory framework for putting into the market radio and telecommunications terminal equipment, will come into force on June 13, 2016, replacing the Directive 1999/5/EC. The intention of this Directive update is to improve the market conditions and ensure essential requirements for health and safety, efficient radio spectrum use and electromagnetic compatibility. There are two other new regulations aligned with this new regulatory framework: the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2014/35/EU that will repeal the Directive 2006/95/EC; and the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive 2014/30/UE. Both regulations will come into force on April 20, 2016.
