Japan 433MHz TPMS RKE Update Expands Band

Japan has introduced amendments to the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Radio Act and the Regulation for Radio Equipment that directly affect Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE). The Japan 433MHz TPMS RKE update expands the permitted frequency band and removes specific equipment enclosure requirements.

The Ministry initiated these amendments in response to two clear developments. First, manufacturers worldwide have adopted a wider frequency band for TPMS and RKE applications. Second, major countries no longer impose enclosure requirements for these devices .

As a result, Japan decided to align its framework with international practices. Authorities plan to enforce the amendment in June 2026 .

Japan Aligns with Global 433 MHz Standards

Under the amendment, Japan will expand the permitted frequency band for TPMS and RKE to 433.05 MHz–434.79 MHz .

Previously, Japan structured its regulatory framework around different frequency allocations. However, international markets primarily rely on the 433 MHz band. Therefore, this Japan 433MHz TPMS RKE update reflects a shift toward global harmonization.

The Land Radio Communications Committee reviewed these technical conditions under Inquiry No. 2009 concerning low-power radio systems . Moreover, during its 97th meeting held on January 22, 2026, the Committee compiled the draft report .

Additionally, authorities opened a public consultation from January 28, 2026 to February 26, 2026 . Stakeholders may submit comments during this period before final adoption.

Elimination of Equipment Enclosure Requirements

In addition to expanding the frequency band, Japan will eliminate the equipment enclosure requirements previously imposed on TPMS and RKE devices .

Previously, manufacturers had to comply with specific enclosure-related provisions under the Regulation for Radio Equipment. Now, regulators will remove those requirements entirely .

Consequently, Japan’s regulatory structure will mirror the approach already adopted in major markets .

Legal Instruments and Entry into Force

The amendment introduces partial revisions to:

Authorities propose June 2026 as the entry-into-force date . Therefore, manufacturers should monitor the final publication and prepare accordingly.

Regulatory Implications for Market Access

The Japan 433MHz TPMS RKE update directly affects regulatory compliance and type approval requirements for TPMS and RKE devices.

Manufacturers should now:

Furthermore, companies planning new applications after June 2026 should align product specifications with the revised framework.
