Egypt Enforces New Safety Standard for ICT and AV Equipment

Egypt ICT Safety Standard Aligned with IEC 62368-1

On January 1, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Transport issued Decree No. 7 of 2025, formally adopting the new Egypt ICT safety standard ES 2501-1 for audio, video, and information-communication technology (ICT) equipment.

This standard fully aligns with IEC 62368-1:2023, a globally recognized standard for electrical safety in multimedia and ICT devices. The new regulation replaces the older ES 2501 and Ministerial Decree No. 241 of 2016, marking a significant shift in Egypt’s product safety framework.

Transition Period and Enforcement

Manufacturers and importers must comply with ES 2501-1 starting from the date of publication. A 6-month transition period has been granted to allow time for adjustment and implementation.

Failure to meet the new safety standard after this grace period may result in rejection of products at market entry or customs clearance.
