South Korea: Mandates USB Type-C for Mobile Devices

South Korea is taking a bold step in technology standardization. The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), alongside the Radio Research Agency (RRA), has introduced new regulations requiring USB Type-C connectors for wired charging and data transfer in mobile and smart devices. This move is designed to enhance consumer convenience and reduce electronic waste.

What’s Changing?

Starting February 14, 2025, manufacturers must comply with the new USB Type-C mandate for:

Mobile phones
Tablets
Digital cameras
Headphones & headsets
Portable speakers & navigation devices

Laptops will follow from April 1, 2026.
