  1. Key Changes:
    • The revised foreign trade policy and ITC HS, 2022 indicate that the import of electronics and IT goods not registered with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) or not complying with standards is prohibited.
    • Electronics and IT goods must comply with BIS registration and labeling requirements, or obtain specific exemption letters from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for importation.
    • For specific goods such as LED products and control gears, samples will be randomly picked from consignments and tested. Non-compliant consignments will be either returned or destroyed at the importer’s cost.
  2. Impact of the Notification:
    • The amended notification affects Para 2.31 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, Para 2(C) of the General Notes regarding Import Policy, and specific policy conditions in chapters 84, 85, and 94 of Import Policy (Schedule 1) ITC HS 2022.
