INDIA: Govt To Establish Testing Centre, Make Testing In India Compulsory

Back

The government is looking to establish a pilot laboratory at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore to develop standards, procedures and tools for testing telecom equipment. The lab will become a testing and security certification centre from 1 April 2015, an unnamed government source was quoted as saying. In a related development, the government also plans to make it mandatory for all equipment to be used in India to be tested in the country, to guard against cyber attacks. The measure is reportedly aimed at Chinese equipment manufacturers, which have faced accusations from Indian and US authorities of deliberately including vulnerabilities that can potentially be exploited by Beijing.
