On April 4th, 2019, the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) published the consultation RSS-181 to receive comments that set the requirements to certify equipment for maritime services.
The main proposed changes are the following:
- Allow equipment with modulation different to amplitude and single band (AM-SSB)
- Remove performance requirements on receivers as these are now covered in international standards which are governed by Transport Canada
- Modernized to reflect the current RSS structure since the last publication of RSS-181 was in 1971
- Remove requirement for minimum standards under environmental conditions as these are now covered in international standards which are governed by Transport Canada
- Remove the section on receiver spurious emission as it is covered in RSS-Gen, that can be found here.
Final comments will be received until June 7th, 2019
