UNITED STATES: FCC Publishes Modular Transmitter Integration Guide

Back

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) published in February, guidance for host product manufacturers: “Modular transmitter integration guide”. Which contains testing guidance and establishes recommendations for manufacturers who use transmitter modules in their products.

It’s a reminder to host product manufacturers that they are responsible for:

1. Following the integration guidance of the modular transmitter
2. Performing a limited set of transmitter module verification testing
3. Ensuring that the end product is compliant with the FCC rules
4. Performing all additional equipment authorization and testing for technical requirements not covered by the module grant.

The FCC reminds manufacturers about their responsibilities and invites them to consider all FCC compliance requirements; review the integration instructions of the certified modular transmitter and ensure that all the items are properly addressed; confirm that the integration instructions for RF exposure requirements are followed for the host product; get the required equipment authorization for not authorized devices that are used in the product; carry out the test of the end-product with the transmitter to confirm that the end-product meets the FCC requirements; And label the product in an appropriate way.
Although the guidelines will become effective from May 1, 2019, it is recommended to follow it now.
