On June 23, 2017, ACMA published a consultation package regarding the future use of the 3.6 GHz band for 5G mobile broadband and the next steps ACMA is considering. This package was followed by the October 2016 discussion paper, Future use of the 1.5 GHz and 3.6 GHz bands, which was open to comments.
The papers review the re-planning options for the 3.6 GHz band. One key point mentioned in the paper is ACMA’s reasoning to make spectrum available in metropolitan and regional areas for new services, which is currently one of the preferred options.
The consultation package is divided into 3 papers:
-Future use of the 1.5 GHz and 3.6 GHz band: Summary of and response to 3.6 GHz band related submissions
-Future use of the 3.6 GHz band: Highest value use assessment – Quantitative Analysis
-Future use of the 3.6 GHz band: Options
The consultation is set to close on August 4, 2017.
